He spoke quickly during Wednesday'southward Hall of Fame inductions, as if wary of the rain that began to fall as he opened his oral fissure. He thanked all of the appropriate people (fans included), chided the yet-unrevealed writer who cost him a unanimous vote, and imparted a slice of advice I wish I had shared in 1996.

"Find someone who inspires you," Jeter said, "and when the time is right, inspire others."
